Fortinet FortiSASE Platform Adds New Security and Management Features for Hybrid Environments

2023 SEASON SALE Networking and Security Showcase In-stock ICT products at exclusive discounts

Fortinet, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, has recently launched new security and management features for its secure access service edge (SASE) package, including a new offering that links SASE resources to SD-WAN applications via multiple Fortinet SD-WAN hubs. Fortinet’s FortiSASE platform includes a range of cybersecurity services such as a secure web gateway, firewall as a service, cloud access security broker (CASB), zero-trust network access, and SD-WAN, all running on its FortiOS operating system.

Fortinet has expanded its Secure Private Access offering to support larger hybrid environments and to simplify access to corporate applications from anywhere. Nirav Shah, the Vice President of Products with Fortinet, said that customers can now connect to multiple hubs, and Fortinet can provide app steering, health checking, and security across all of those networks. The new feature, Secure Internet Access, allows customers to assign their IP addresses to SASE-based resources, providing them with more flexibility in choosing how they want to use the IP addresses of those applications.

Another new feature, Secure SaaS Access, provides multitenant users with better control access to specific cloud-based resources via Fortinet’s CASB and newly added tenant information. Fortinet also supports dual-mode, inline, and API-based CASB capabilities. With the new URL-based CASB feature, Fortinet can insert the HTTP header with the tenant ID information, providing specific access to certain resources.

The new features aim to strengthen Fortinet’s standing in the developing integrated, single-vendor SASE market, including competitors such as Cisco, Cato, Palo Alto, Versa, and VMware. Gartner stated in a recent report on single-vendor SASE offerings that the demand for single-vendor SASE tends to come from smaller enterprises without strongly siloed network and security teams and does not require best-of-breed across all capabilities. It also comes from architecture teams in large global multinationals.

In conclusion, Fortinet’s new security and management features for its SASE package allow customers to connect to multiple hubs and provide app steering, health checking, and security across all of those networks. Fortinet offers better control access to specific cloud-based resources through its CASB and newly added tenant information. These new features aim to strengthen Fortinet’s position in the single-vendor SASE market.
