The Department of Information and Communication Technology Region 11 (Davao) and Huawei Philippines recently co-hosted the first ICT Tech Day Summit in Davao City. The theme of the summit was “Advancing towards digital transformation in Region 11.” During the summit, Regional Director Eva May de la Rosa presented the region’s Five-Year Digital Master Plan. DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy also gave a keynote address during the event, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts between LGUs and private sectors to bridge the digital divide in the region.
The summit included talks by representatives from various government agencies, including Secretary Maria Belen Acosta of Mindanao Development Authority, NEDA 11 Regional Assistant Director Guilberto Altura, and Rep. Cheeno Almario, vice chairman of ICT Committee-House of Representatives. Members of Huawei Philippines, including Alex Luan, president of Huawei Philippines Enterprise Business Group, also attended the summit and shared their expertise.
During the event, Luan emphasized the need for the Philippines to undergo digital transformation to support Philippine businesses’ recovery and growth. He also urged the government to use the power of technology to create a better digital Philippines.
More than 100 participants attended the summit, representing different local government units, government offices, and attached agencies in Davao. The summit aims to inspire Davao LGUs and government agencies to embrace digitalization and continue the journey toward digital transformation.
The event highlighted the importance of digital transformation in promoting social and economic development in the region. It also showcased the role of public-private partnerships in bridging the digital divide and promoting the use of technology for growth and progress.
